Short history review

The city of Dnepropetrovsk was founded by prince Potemkin in 1777. It is situated in the Central Ukraine, in a place where two rivers merge ( the Samara and the Kiltchen). The city was called Katerinoslav. Later, in May, 1926, the city was renamed into Dnepropetrovsk. It was named for Gregoriy Petrovskiy, the authoritative ukrainian headman, known on his congress speeches aimed at supporting labour and peasant communities.

The main entertainment for visitors as well as for local residents of this wonderful city is sightseeing. There is a big choice of places of interest in Dnepropetrovsk. For example, one of the most ancients collection of stone sculptures in the world – Stone Babas (Scythian Women). Dnepropetrovsk offers a lot of museums. Dnepropetrovsk historical museum is one of them. It was founded in 1849. There you can retrace the history of the city and its’ inhabitants. Golden domes of Dnipropetrovsk churches inspire and animate the spiritual life of the city. One of these churches (Preobrazhensky Cathedral) was built by the order of the Russian Queen Katherine II.
